Before you can start your driving lessons, you need to obtain a provisional driving licence. You can get the form from the post office. Alternatively under certain conditions, you can apply online here.
You can apply for your provisional licence before your 17th birthday, but you cannot drive on the road untill you reach 17.
When you pass your test, you can apply for a full driving licence, which you must do within 2 years. The driving test examiner can arrange to keep your provisional licence and get you full licence sent to you automatically.
